Conan the Cimmerian is a little known game with a PC and Amiga version in 1988, published by Virgin. It has quite nice graphics, with large and detailed sprites and backgrounds, but unfortunately only a few sound effects along with looping music.
In the game, you play as Conan on a quest to avenge the murder of your wife by the evil sorcerer Toth Amon. A nice touch is that the story is told by Akado, an old wizard who sits at a campfire telling the story to the young adventurers. Every time Conan falls in battle or finishes a chapter, Akado will appear in a small scene and continue his story.
You start the game in the city of Shadizar, which also serves as an operations centre that you return to after each chapter. The city is quite large, with about 50 buildings you can enter. You will find inns, different merchants and empty houses that you can enter to search for loot, but guards might catch you and throw you in jail, taking your gold and three months of your life.
But Conan is not yet an experienced warrior, so you will need to find a master and learn some new combat techniques before he can hope to stand a chance against the various enemies you will encounter along the way. Do you dare to play this game?
